The downside of using PDFs and images

It is worth bearing in mind that if you are using a PDF or an image of a leaflet, a screen reader may not be able to read the details and neither will the search engines. However, with the current use of mobile phones for browsing websites, the biggest disadvantage of using PDF files is that they don't re-flow like a HTML page, so the reader has to constantly scroll left and right.

When you include a photograph of someone, a group or event, etc, you add hover text to describe in a few words so someone who can't see the image at least knows what the image is all about.

However, a few words aren't sufficient for a whole leaflet, so time consuming a job as it is, it is worth typing out the content of a leaflet and supplementing it with a downloadable version that readers can take away.

Don't miss an opportunity to have your website indexed by the search engines and don't inadvertently exclude some readers, read more about screen readers...
